Great weather for softball

Typically, the first hint of fall brings out the football side of us, but we'll be the first to admit that it works for girls fastpitch softball, too.

The rather unpleasant memories of softball in 104-degree weather still linger, but they're fading fast.

Here's some of images captured from the Tuesday night action in Mustang ....

Back at the ol' ballpark

After a hiatus from photographing Riot softball for awhile, I returned on Tuesday to find no pitching machine, a whole new cast of eagers players and a beard on Assistant Coach Brent.

Well, that'll teach me not to take so much time off.  Here's a sampling of photos from the action on Tuesday.

Man, it was hot

98 degrees hot, in fact.

The Riot lost both ends of a twinbill Saturday over at the tournament in beautiful Del City, but they were real troopers playing in this heat from noon to 2 p.m.

Time to rest up, hydrate and think about the next game.

Riot in Del City tournament

Here we go again.

The girls return to tournament play Saturday at noon in Del City.

Let's hope the rain is gone for awhile.

**********************************

Meanwhile, I've started a facebook fan page for friends, family and players of the Riot. I've sent email invitations to everyone on Coach Corey's e-mail list.

If you're confused by the name of the FB page creator (Steve Olafson) and the name of the author of this blog (Banjo Jones) do not be alarmed.

We are one in the same. I am Madalyn White's great-uncle and "Banjo Jones" is simply the pseudonym I've used for years for another blog unrelated to The Riot.

Photos from the Del City tournament

The latest viddy of our girls in action yesterday

The girls of the Riot are playing some good ball these days. They won three in a row yesterday in the Del City tournament before coming up short in the final game (which went extra innings) that featured some weird bounces of the ol' softball at some crucial moments.

We realize the video images on this blog can get a bit blurry at times, but that's cause the package has to be compressed so much to fit on YouTube and/or Google's blogger platform. Perhaps at some point in the future we'll put a compilation of these videos on disks, which will have much better resolution. If that happens we'll let you know and give a disk to each of the girls, which they'll be able to play in a DVD player or computer.

Meantime, we're putting together slide presentation of still photos from yesterday's action, so look for it late tonight or maybe tomorrow. Thanks, and Go Riot!

Riot to play Girls Glam Slam in Moore

It's a three-day tournament, but the Riot girls first game is scheduled for 10:05 a.m. Saturday against the Tuttle Terminators.

A win will put them in the 2:25 p.m. Saturday game against either Machine 01 or the Harrah Panthers. A loss in the opening round would put the Riot's next game at 12:15 p.m. Saturday.

Head Coach Corey, in an e-mail communique Monday to the players' parents and other hangers-on, stated he was "very proud of the way the girls battled" in last weekend's tournament in Del City, where the Riot won 2 and lost 2.

UPDATE: postponed til August

Riot get back in win column

What a difference a day makes.

The girls of the Yukon Riot looked good in all phases of the game on Saturday during the second day of the 4-Wheel 8U Tournament in beautiful Del City.

By virtue of the win, the gals will wrap up things on Sunday at 11 a.m. BE THERE! With your game face on.

(Editor's Note: We'll put together a super terrific slide show/video compilation after tomorrow's game. Thanks for your patronage. Go Riot.)

Riot play again Saturday in Del City

As you can see from the above photo, taken just after the opening game of the 4-Wheel 8U Tournament in Del City, things didn't go all that well for the Yukon Riot girls fastpitch team.

But that's softball, right?

Win some, lose some.

The girls will return to the diamond at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Keep your heads up girls and let's show 'em we can play ball!

Riot to play in Moore tournament

The Yukon Riot, fresh off its season-opening doubleheader sweep, will play in the 8U tournament in Moore this weekend, we learned today.

The first game is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at Buck Thomas Park.

There was a good turnout for the girls' first two games, but we hope even more fans will come out this weekend.
